Tonight we had a party for our friend Medlir who was recently sworn in as an American Citizen. Originally from Albania, he’s been in the US for almost a decade. Now he has an American passport. It was nice to celebrate and reflect on the good things about this country and the opportunities it provides. It also gives me pause to think about what it means to be an American. What can I do for my country, a country with wonderful ideals, innovative, inventive and optimistic people, and one that faces daunting challenges.
To keep it light, let’s talk about the food! All American of course: Hot dogs (I am a convert to Hebrew Nationals– best hot dog I’ve ever eaten), chili, corn muffins, pizza, carrots and ranch, chocolate chip cookies and ice cream, oh and leftover Halloween candy.
