The Pennsylvania primary is a couple of weeks away. Democracy in action, folks.
It’s hard to believe that our country’s official government was codified only 230 years ago. Think of these dates for example:
First Settlement at Jamestown – 1607 (401 years ago)
Declaration of Independence – 1776 (232 years ago)
U.S. Constitution signed – 1787 – (221 years ago)
Civil War ends – 1865 (143 years ago)
Really, when you think about it, this country is still young. There are probably trees outside our house that were born before the United States!
With all this in mind, it’s no wonder Robin and I were excited to take a day trip to Philadelphia to help register voters for the upcoming primaries. It was truly a thrill to stand in the same room in Carpenter’s Hall where the first Continental Congress (Adams, Jefferson, Washington, and the like) met just over 230 years ago. Overlaid was the feeling of making history yet again as we helped to register 5 new voters for this year’s presidential election.
Then, of course, we took some time to browse the Italian market on Philly’s south side.
Great day.
Pounding the pavement in Philadelphia. Or, to be more accurate, wandering the streets enjoying the sights of our nation’s first capital. (Photos by Scott Lunt, Mar. 22, 2008).

LOVE Philadelphia. The museum there is fantastic. I hope you grabbed an authentic Philly cheesesteak although I am skeptical you did….
MISS YOU!!
I loved Philly. When in the room where the Declaration of Independence was signed, it felt like being in the temple. I had a very spiritual experience when I was there. MOM
We skipped the cheesesteak this time, and instead had pasta and gigantic meatballs! It was delicious.
