SWS – A Global Family

Today for SWS I want to celebrate the diversity of our human family.

Yesterday was a unique day for us. Occasionally, here in DC, groups of International embassies are open for public tours. So, off we went to grab a taste of culture (quite literally – just ask my tongue that is still burning from the Ethiopian pepper I inadvertently ate!) by dropping in to as many of the 24 embassies that were open (mostly African and Latin American embassies). We were able to make it to 14 of them! Including, but not limited to: India, Madagascar, South Korea, Paraguay, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Argentina, Mexico, and Ethiopia.

Each of the embassies were showcasing the unique culture of their country. For example, we enjoyed samosas in India, Tango lessons in Argentina, music and dancing in Ethiopia and Madagascar, art in Mexico, and on and on. It was quite a walk through the world.

Of course, as we visited these beautiful buildings with happy, smiling people, we were able to appreciate just a little more this varied world we live in. If only every day could be embassy open-house day!!
