WALL-E in real life

I had a strange experience yesterday. I was driving to Maryland to get a part for my car at a junk yard. While I was driving, I was listening to an episode of the Creative Screenwriting podcast where the host interviewed Andrew Stanton, the writer and director of WALL-E, Pixar’s hit movie which is bound to win an academy this year. It was a great interview.

I arrived at Crazy Ray’s junk yard just as the podcast finished, then I walked (or to be more accurate I carefully stepped) into a field of junk with row upon row of lifeless cars, half eaten from all of the car-part speculators that crawled through the cars like rats looking for a peanut.

I thought of WALL-E’s futile task of piling up junk while I tiptoed through the pools of scummy water. Hmmm. Now I know why Ray is crazy.
