I only wish there were more of these, but I really like them. It’s a simple online show about a speed dating night in a cafe. You can find the rest on strike.tv. The beauty of these is that they are very simple, but well written. After watching all 5 episodes (they’re only a few minutes each), I have decided that one is my favorite. Watch it, then read my analysis below: (disclaimer – I can’t disable the ad before the video, so just ignore)
First of all, from a writing point of view, the setup is great. The built in tension of a speed date, the awkwardness of meeting someone for the first time, and, best of all, the fact that you wouldn’t put Dorian and Julie together just by looks alone. First, she toys with him, but not too much. Then he figures it out and plays along. The plot device in this one is the list of questions, which gives the dialogue a nice thread to the obvious conclusion that she likes his sincerity and gives him her number. Note the two items that are brought up at the first, then used at the end: she’s an actress, he’s a math teacher. Nice writing.

Hilarious and painful at the same time. The last (and only) time I did speed dating, I asked if the guy would rather drink a gallon of sweat or a gallon of spit. I think I learned that question from Deana. I actually had some guy wearing a pink polo shirt and a Moroni necklace who works in nuclear removal want my phone number. I did NOT give it to him.
wow, Jenny. speed dating sounds like a barrel of laughs
Thanks for the posting and for the compliments. I’m so glad you like the series. This episode is one of my favorites, too. I really like the interplay between the two characters, and the actors did a fantastic job.
We have five more episodes coming out (we are in post production now), and we are hoping to make more in the future. In the meantime, we here at Speedie Date central thank you for your support.
