Photo: Chappy Rago. I've been thinking about the people in Haiti for several days. I remembered that I have a couple of photos submitted to Pixelshot by a young journalist who was there recently. Chappy captured this shot while visiting with one of the families. I am very sad to report (see comments below) that this precious child was killed in the earthquake.

Can anyone tell me what this sign says? (Shot in Budapest, 2006)

I'm not even sure what fruits these are (anyone?). Maybe figs and lime? Anyway, to me, this photo is all about contrast. Strong colors on each side. Also, I imagine their tastes as sweet vs sour. I took this photo in Split, Croatia, in 2006. (Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT; 1/500@f/4.5; ISO 400)

This shot is slightly out of focus, I know, but I keep coming back to it for some reason. Maybe it's the green glow. Maybe it's the location (Bratislava, Slovakia). Not sure, but I like it.

Just today, two separate friends emailed me about France, so I have to say it's on the brain. I took this photo inside the main reception hall of the Castle at Beynac (the colors were manipulated to give it that "I'm cool and artsy" feel). I like to imagine the conversations happening here in the 12th century. This castle was built 400 years before Henry Hudson, who sailed 400 years ago this year! (Canon 5D Mark II)

Naisi Zhao (right) is a Mormon missionary in New York City. This is a screen shot from a photo/audio essay by Todd Heisler and Miki Meek on the NYTimes web site. It's a nice piece highlighting a fellow member of the LDS church. The site, called "One in 8 Million" has several intimate slide shows about people in NYC.

Photo Albert Ochosa (2005) - To round out our international photographers week of PODs, this rotated photo of the pillars of the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela, comes by way of Madrid-based designer and Pixelshot partner Albert Ochosa. -- The cathedral in Santiago was built on the legend that it contains the bones of the apostle Saint James (aka "Saint Iago" - Santiago). It's also the last stop on a long and beautiful pilgrim's trail across Spain. When I asked Albert why he took this photo, he said simply: "It was the side of the cathedral, I felt risen." Indeed. -- To me, the pillars look like they are sleeping.
