I’ve finally started editing the video from our trip to Georgia. Here is a small clip from a place we visited in Charleston, one of our new favorite towns. The Aiken-Rhett house is an antebellum plantation home tucked in downtown Charleston. They wouldn’t let me collect any photos or video from inside the house (although I did sneak a couple of shots), so it’s hard to explain how impressive the home is. It is very well preserved from its original state from before the war.

Stay tuned for more videos over the next few days!

Beynac, France. It’s not every day you get to spend remodeling a home built sometime between the 11th and 15th century. This wall, on the second floor, was covered with plaster some time in the recent past. Ben wanted to remove the plaster to show the original stone. Once the plaster is all removed, a mason will come in and do a finish and fill in the cracks a bit.

This time lapse was made in about 5 hours.

The county seat in Appomattox county Virginia was called Court House, as was the custom at the time of the civil war. By April of 1865, General Grant had been trying to defeat General Lee’s army of Northern Virginia for almost a year. Grant had cornered Lee at Richmond, capital city of the South (the city had been evacuated). After some time, Lee began a fast retreat to the west to connect to much needed supplies. Grant followed and was able to intercept the train lines where the supplies were expected. Lee’s men had barely eaten for three days. When they reached Appomattox Court House, Grant managed to get between Lee and the supplies. A small battle occurred. Pinned down and exhausted, Lee realized that he was finished.
